Adaptation NOT Rehabilitation
I was quite upset with a well meaning article whose author lamented the fact that, even though difficult, sled dogs can be rehabilitated to become a household pet. REHABILITATED?? There is nothing inherently wrong with a sled dog; what they do need is to ADAPT to a new life. And yes, it is not an overnight process and yes, it does require patience, but with love and consistency your new pup will learn a new way of life.
This is why I was very happy to read Joan Klucha’s article in Vancouver Sun. I couldn’t agree more: sled dogs are just like any other rescue dogs!
